Discipleship Plan

One principle of doctrine I found very helpful from the scripture blocks I read was from section 87 verse 87 which read, “Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it cometh quickly, saith the Lord.” This scripture is multi-faceted is that the scripture in itself might hint to several possible meanings of which I believe one could stand guided by the spirit. I loved this scripture because it is a voice of admonition and also a promise from the Lord that if I seek by all means to stand in holy places until the day of the coming of the Lord, I will be blessed with eternal life.  The phrase “Stand in Holy Places” in this context does not necessarily mean that I need to stand at a specific physical place always. It rather means that I need to create an environment wherever I am to feel the influence of the spirit in my life always. This might be through the actions and habits I foster within my lifestyle. Some of these habits might include and will not limited to the following, scripture study, prayer, fasting and service to others.

Scripture Study is a key ingredient in my Disciple Plan because I know that the Lord has commanded that we ask of God as written in the book of James 1 and has asked us to learn of him in the Doctrine and Covenant 19. I know that if I focus on reading my scriptures each and every day, I will be able to know the voice of the Lord and it will help me to draw closer to him in my life and will help me to find peace in him. In a world that is slowly become very complex, I know that as I learn of him I can also become more stronger in truth. Prayer is also another key ingredient and will help me learn the art of conversing with the Lord and a man speaketh with another. In is in prayer that I will get to express gratitude to Him of all he has blessed me with and also get to express my wants and my desires. Fasting also accompanies prayer and show how serious one is to the Lord. Serving others has always been at the Hallmark of discipleship.

Some of the challenges I might face in this quest is consistency and time to serve. One this I will do to continually safeguard these key goals are continuous reviews and reflections. Journal writing of some of these experiences can be helpful in realizing the hand of the Lord in this Discipleship Plan.

I will keep a record of my progress in my hard copy journal and also in my digital journal. This will be an act of showing accountability and also trust in the Lord that he will help me accomplish these tasks. I strongly feel that if we partner with the Lord in our goals he will indeed carry us through in everything that we do.
