Reflections on Growth Mindset

A vivid experience of when I had a growth mindset is when I served my mission in the Uganda Kampala Mission. Going into the mission field I had mixed feelings of fear and faith and I was not very sure if I would succeed in the work or not. Some of the challenges I faced and overcome were to do with speaking to people and accept rejection along the process.

A growth mindset according to Carol Dweck refers to the ability to view failure from a different perspective. Failures become a “Not Yet” instead of a means to an end. Failure should foster resilience and the realization that this is but only a part of the journey to the epitome of our goals.

A Growth mindset as described in the book of ether in the Book of Mormon is a way in which our Heavenly Father wants us to learn and at times weaknesses are given to us so that we may be humble and be willing to be strengthened by the Lord in all our efforts. ”And because thou hast seen thy weakness thou shalt be made strong”
